~ Self Referral ~

What works for me might not work for you. What has helped me before might not be beneficial for me right now. I found that what's important to me is to find what's best for me right in this moment. I knew, for me, it had to be an approach that is simple and basic; something that was like an umbrella and covered all of my life - everything!

Discernment was needed to know the truth. If I could identify the truth when it was in front of me, I could put my heart into it. I was looking for a way I could live that had some positive effect on me.

All the people in authority positions had some bits of truth and things to offer me. I heard it all, but when it came to using their advice, I found that their approach was more useful to them than it was for me. I had to find a way that was useful to me.

When getting down to look at the truth of it for myself, all I had to work with was myself and my faith that I could find some way that works for me. At the deepest level of that was my personal relationship with G-d. That's where my trust came from; the faith and trust that a way would be provided. Self-referral is an extension of that basic knowingness, trusting myself to listen and respond to the messages that I was sensing.

By the time I was introduced to essential oils, my body was already crying out with signals of pain and distress. So, as a natural extension of some of the things I was already doing, I applied self-referral techniques to my use of essential oils.

Here's some of the ways I've used self-referral with essential oils:

I've quieted myself, closed my eyes and with my thoughts asked which essential oil is for me. Then I listened to the first sign or signal of information. It may be a thought - a knowingness, or my eyes may go to one bottle, or it might be later that one essential oil becomes apparent in some way. I'm patient and I listen and watch for signals, even those that aren't obvious. Often the response is obvious with a simple sense of affirmation.

I have sniffed an essential oil and taken notice to see if I'm attracted to the essence or if I'm repelled by it.

I have put my hands on the bottles and closed my eyes, with an intention of choosing the essential oil that is perfect for me. I found that I don't have to have the bottle here, I can use a piece of paper with the name of the oil on it. Using my sensing ability and trusting is what was important. Trusting to get a response became more important than the uncommon method I used.

I take nature and harmony into consideration. In this way I work with nature and have a trust that nature works with me. There are plants that thrive and are compatible in nature. There are herbs and spices that work well in harmony with one another. If I'm attracted to one, I will pay attention to notice whether I'm attracted to the other.

I use time as a consideration, not just routinely using the essential oil. I wait until I sense that it's the appropriate time for me to use an oil. My body has a rhythm and I use my senses to keep in harmony with that rhythm.

I have asked others that I trust for feedback, to sense me, when there was too much stress, confusion or overload for me to access the messages from my senses.

I have set an intention in my mind and closed my eyes and randomly opened a big book to find helpful information. Then I contemplate the findings taking all into consideration.

I have put my hand on top of a bottle and used my mind to sense the contents - the essence of the plant.

I have used muscle testing techniques; to assist in confirming my findings. To explain in a general way, muscles remain strong when thinking of a question that is in your best interest and they weaken when it's not. I have used muscles in my fingers to do self-testing.

In each essential oil I have used, I have trusted the elements, the intelligence and the nature of the plant, to work with the body's ability to create optimum health.

There are many techniques of self-referral; I'd like to know your technique and share that information on this page for others to contemplate.

I have found the important factors are the intention, the trust and the faith.
